Santa Claus Parade Sunday, November 15 12:30pm
My mom used to take us to see the Santa Claus parade when she worked as a secretary at the Sick Kids Hospital Emergency Department. I remember it being crowded and having to crane my neck to watch the floats and marching bands go by. There was Santa at the end, of course, which was a pretty big pay off. My favourite part was always the upside-down clowns who walk on their hands. How do they do it?! There were some brutally cold parade days back in the ’80’s and we would warm up over steaming hot chocolate in the hospital before going home.
The crowds have kept me away since, but I think Colum will really get a kick out it this year. (Irene will, too, but she also likes peek-a-boo for hours on end.) Thanks to The Official Site of the Toronto Santa Claus Parade I see that the parade begins at Christie Pits and winds its way past Sick Kids Hospital and down to Church and Front. I also see that there’s a free breakfast bonanza sponsored by President’s Choice Financial at Dundas Square from 9 – 11am. Wild horses could not drag me to that, I’m so sure it will be freezing cold mayhem.
I don’t think I want to go down to Sick Kids either, where nobody I know has hot chocolate connections anymore. Does anybody have any great parade watching spots they want to share?

I think at the start of the parade would be great. My dad always took us kids, a ladder and a board so we could sit on it up high. The one year though we to Christie Pits or somewhere around there and there was hardly anyone around there. Of course you are talking in the 50’s and 60’s. Hmm quite awhile ago.
I am so excited you are thinking about taking the kids.
