The good people at Scotch Brite sent me a package of cleaning tools to test out, which meant I actually had to do some cleaning. It’s funny how much of a difference new gear can make, though. I was excited.
Traditionally, I use dish cloths for dishes, counters, and appliance surfaces and supplement with a scouring pad or SOS pad when needed. Of course, with my new stainless steel stove I had to be careful to avoid scratches. Enter the Scotch Brite scratch-proof sponges, scouring pads and soap pads. They easily took care of my caked on messes without scratching a thing. I even burned some chili to the bottom of the pot to test them out. (OK, fine. That was totally an accident.) My favourite new kitchen tool is a dish brush with a removable head so you replace it when it gets gungy. I really don’t know how I did dishes before.
And if you’ve ever uttered the words, “Oh my god, no! Don’t touch the toilet brush! Ew, ew, ew!,” and proceeded to douse your toddler in Purell, you’ll love this: disposable toilet scrubbers. That’s right, use it and toss it and your toilet will be shinier than ever.

OR
You can win one of two $50 gift packs right here on this blog by leaving your own cleaning secret in the comment section. Here’s mine: I use an old, barely-used baby bottle brush to wash my travel coffee mugs. It’s the only thing that will fit every time and never scratch.
Contest open until Wednesday, December 1 when I’ll use random.org to draw the names of two winners. Make sure to leave a valid email address when entering so I can contact you. Open to Canadian residents only.

shoot, I was gonna say the bottle brush. I love using that for ALL my glasses and sippy cups.
I will share my other favorite cleaning tip. I save ALL my change in a jar and when I reach a certain amount I call the cleaning lady!
Disposable toilet scrubbers, hmm? The things I get excited about these days. :) (I don’t see this on their site. Which product is that?)
Now for a cleaning tip…This is one most people probably know, but I haven’t bought window cleaner in years – I use white vinegar instead. Gets lots of things nice and clean and keeps the stinkies at bay.
(Can you tell housework is not my forte? :)
hmmm… I have to think hard about a cleaning tip… put on music while cleaning, it helps get it done faster!
A cleaning tip. Well, one thing that (sometimes) works wonders for me is leaving the toilet cleaner sitting on top of the closed toilet lid; either my husband will actually do it, or it’ll be sitting on the side of the bath next time I go in so I do it just to get it over with. Other than that, my house is a bit of a sty, so I can’t really offer advice. Maybe if I had a bunch of new cleaning products to try I’d have more to add. ;)
Here’s a cleaning tip my sister says works well for her: use Sunlight dish soap to clean the tub and sink. It cleans well and leaves a great scent!
My hint for cleaning is for those dreaded pots that you neglected for a wee bit too long, and therefore have stuff stuck on the bottom…
Sometimes a steel wool pad will not cut it, or even it will scratch and damage the finish.
I have a collection of bread and milk tabs. The kind that hold the bag closed. I grab one and use it to scrape off the cooked on gunk. NO scratches, No damage and no $ for a special cleaner. Just keep reusing them until they break.
My Mom gave me a great tip for cleaning the stove. Like you Rebecca, I have a gas stove, which I love and use (abuse) daily. The top of our stove was so filthy one day, Mom said, “If you spray that with oven cleaner before you go to bed, in the morning when you get up it will wipe off like water.” I tried it, and guess what? AMAZING!!! So there’s my tip.
