Things You Need to Buy at Costco Because You Shop at Costco

At the risk of hurting my hip, urban family image (just play along), I will admit that I shop at Costco. That’s right, I’m a member. Every year I agonize over whether the membership fees are worth it but I am drawn to the big boxes of breakfast cereal, bundles of colourful kids’ socks and cheap diapers.

So I trek out the burbs every so often to stock up on staples and see what they have on sale. Then I bring it all home and try to figure out where to put it. Clearly I need some of these to save even more money.

A fridge-sized freezer. Nothing will ever go bad again. Not that you would actually eat anything you find at the back of this beast. But the electricity bill alone will cut your Costco visits in half. Think of the savings.

Utilitarian shelving. That lifetime supply of Triscuits and canned tomatoes isn’t going to stack itself. I hope you don’t have any other plans for your basement or mud room or dining room because one is never enough.

Your very own vacuum sealing machine. Because clearly your not going to eat a kilo of beef in a sitting.

Rolls of plastic sold separately. But only in packs of six, so you might need to buy another shelving unit while your there.

Treadmill. Except sometimes you do eat all that meat at once. And have you seen the size of their pies?

$100 bread box. Fits two loaves at once so you only have to freeze one!

A complete set of dry-food storage containers. Well, you can’t just leave a five kilogram bag of oatmeal open, can you? I’m not sure what the smaller sizes are for.

DIY canning kit. It’s for when you run out of freezer space.

A really big bbq. You’re going to have to cook all that meat at some point or you won’t be able to save money by buying more.

All new patio furniture. You’d better start entertaining on the regular.

Actually, you’re just going to need a bigger house.

I love Costco. I’m trying to figure out how to cram bulk things into this small house we just moved into. I thought about kicking one of the kids out and using his room as storage, but then we’ll have one less person eating stuff and I won’t be able to shop there as often.

Most of my life is this problematic. I’m going to go stuff my face with a giant bag of Peanut M&Ms now.
