I am thrilled to be one of the blog ambassadors for this yearāsĀ Canadian Breast CancerĀ Foundation CIBC Run For The Cure. My daughter and I will be running the 1K in Toronto onĀ October 5. You can donate to support our teamĀ here.
Okay, the pressure is on. We are down to the wire. The clock is winding down. There’s no time to spare. Do you catch my drift?
The CIBC Run For the Cure is THIS SUNDAY.
Here is where I had planned to be in terms of fundraising at this point:
Here is where I actually am:
As anyone who has ever done any sort of fundraising knows, the last few days are often the make-and-break time. People mean to give, they really do, but the time just slips away from them. I, myself, had a tab open to a friend’s fundraising efforts forĀ a solid week.Ā I just needed to go get my credit card out of my purse in order to donate. I was about to do that for over a week and then the event happened and it’s too late. Of course, it’s never too late to give to a good cause. But it’s too late to support my friend on this particular instance effort.
But our job, fellow Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run For The Cure fundraisers, is to chase down all those people with tabs open on their computers. Email, call, post in on Facebook or whatever else works. Our job is to remind people that they want to give because so many people really, really do. Let’s make it easy for them.
And if you would like to donate to my Playground Confidential team, omg, thank you thank you thank you.
We had hoped to run as a family and set a modest goal of $300, but other commitments have made it impossible for the whole family to make it. So it’s going to be a mother-daughter run which is even better, isn’t it?
We were walking to High Park at the beginning of the month and saw streams of women (and some men) walking in support of the Weekend to End Breast Cancer. “What’s going on?” Irene asked. And so I told her about all the people who were walking all weekend to raise money to help people who were sick with cancer.
“Would you like to do something like that?” I asked.
Her eyes lit up.
“Because I thought that you and I could run a race to raise money for cancer; just the two of us,” I said.
“Yes, yes, yes!”
She was jumping up and down.
“But … it means you’re going to miss hockey that day. Is that okay?”
(This little girl clad in pink with golden ringlets LOVES her some hockey.)
“Oh, yes, mommy. That’s FINE.”
Alright, baby girl. Let’s do this thing.
And so we are. I’d like to thank everyone who has already supported us with a donation. I get to run with my daughter and teach her about helping others, but you’re the ones who should really feel good.
Those of you with the donation page open on your browser … the race is THIS SUNDAY, October 5th. So you might want to find your wallet.
You’re all the best. xo
This is the fourth in a series of posts Iām publishing in my role as a blog ambassador for this yearāsĀ Ā Canadian Breast CancerĀ Foundation CIBC Run For The Cure.
