Product Review
Last week, L’il I moved from our bedroom into Young C’s. She’s mostly sleeping throught the night now, so I figured it was time. I’m not sure what it is about girls, but I suddenly found myself looking at the room. What can I do to brighten this up, I thought? The jungle-themed hooks and lightswitch plate that Young C’s grandparents gave him were nice. And the sunny yellow wall colour works. The “Ready for Reading” posters we picked up at the library are okay, I guess. And both kids really love the dinosaur mobile. But isn’t there something I could do that would say “girl” without really saying “girl”? Something that would make it feel like it wasn’t just a boy’s room?
So when I saw that a selection of Ikea wall appliqués had been marked down to about $7 from $20, I stopped to look. The colourful sunflowers pictured above caught my eye and I couldn’t wait to try them out. Putting them up was fairly easy, if a bit finicky. And they looked wonderful! They were the perfect bright and cheery decorative touch for a shared boy/girl room. I really loved them.
Until they started to peel off. At first it was only the edge of one petal and I smoothed it back down. After a couple days, though, they were shedding leaves. One week later, an entire flower has come down. The instructions call for a clean, dry wall that hasn’t been freshly painted. I had that and I applied the stickers as meticulously as I could. Yes, it is summer in Toronto and therefore a bit humid, I guess. Still, what kind of ideal, climate controlled atmosphere do you need for these to stay on? It is disappointing as I was about to recommend everyone go pick some up.
I’ll be on the lookout for other — better — reasonably priced appliqués. I will let you know if I find any good ones.

Those are cute. Wonder if they have any more boyish looking ones since I have only dudes in my castle? Although, if they aren’t gonna stay on the wall, what’s the point? Need to do something the blue walls in #3’s room are starting to look pretty boring.
It’s such a great idea for a quick room touch up. I’m going to look into different makes.
We used Wall Candy in Big C’s room, and I have never had a problem with them peeling off. Plan to use them for Little G’s room too.
