Product Review
As soon as I had a baby I knew I wanted a Jolly Jumper. I don’t know why, exactly (memories of bouncing baby sibs, perhaps), but want one I did. So I was pretty disappointed when our apartment had cheap, modern doorframes that weren’t wide enough to hang the jumper from. But I did without.
We’ve moved since then, so I was really gung ho to get a Jolly Jumper for L’il I. Even though only the bedroom doorframes are suitable in our new place, I made a special trip to the mall (really, not a likely place to find me) to get one. I figured that I could use it while folding laundry, making the bed, and general bedroom tidying.
I did not figure on the slam dancing that Young C would see as the obvious purpose for this jumper. Nor did I consider the crazy-twirling and uber-bouncing that he would be eager to help his baby sis with. Still, at about four months, L’il I really liked being upright and finding her feet on the ground and gently bobbing for a few minutes at a time. She enjoyed it so much that I started to eye the nice double-wide doorway between the kitchen and living/dining room. I eyed that doorway pretty damned hard for a couple weeks. I finally asked my father-in-law if he thought it would be easy enough and secure enough to put up some sort of a ledge that the jumper could hang from.
Guess what? The next time he came over he brought his tool kit and firmly secured two peices of wood over the doorway. Not exactly out of Martha Stewart Living, if you catch my drift, but I don’t care because L’il is now seven months old and a jumping maniac with plenty of room and I can see her from just about anywhere. I love it.
I am officially issuing a warning here, though. Proceed with caution and at your own risk. Make sure you know what you’re doing, in other words, before hanging your baby off something you stuck to the wall yourself.
Final thoughts: Jolly Jumper is simple and easy and great exercise. Babies love it. It hangs in the closet when you don’t need it. It’s much more space efficient than an exer-saucer for those of us sandwhiched together in small quarters. Other companies make similar things that are probably just as good. I paid about $40 CAN, I think. You can buy it at any major toy store or department store.

Both My Girl and my newphew got so much pleasure out orf these bouncers/jumpers – I remember both faces full of surprise followed by glee – a cherished memory x
Both of my kids screamed in terror at the mere sight of the Jolly Jumper… past life accidents? LOL
That’s a really enlightening idea to create a mold by yourself to use Jolly Jumper on it. Safety first. But still very good idea. My baby love Jolly Jumper so much. Better than other similar products on the market.
