Rattle Tattle

Post Updated

I tend not to complain much. I can probably count the times I’ve returned a product to a store on one hand. I will hardly ever send food back in a restaurant, and I don’t expect kids’ toys to last forever. But this really bothers me. I bought a little Sassy rattle as a stocking stuffer this Christmas. It was over a month before L’il I was actually able to play with it, but it was a perfect little baby rattle — an easy to hold ring with rubber grips for chewing and a soft and cheerful fish. She loved it. Well, she loved it for a whole month before I found it in pieces at the bottom of her bouncy chair. I admit that her big brother may have grabbed it or thrown it on the ground (or maybe not), but a baby’s toy should be more durable than that! This toy is a real hazard when broken and I am truly concerned about it being on the market.

I sent the company this email, so we will have to wait for their response:

To Whom It May Concern,
I am disappointed and concerned about the quality of your rattles. I bought my baby your Swim on a Rim Rattle from a ToysRUs in Toronto as a Christmas gift. As soon as she was able to hold and play with a toy it was a fast favourite. She loved the rubber grips for holding and chewing on, the soft bright fish, and the rattling sounds. Imagine my dismay when I found it broken on her bouncy chair. One of the rubber grips had come off, now a perfect chock-able cylinder, and the little beads fell out, too. Luckily, I’m pretty sure she didn’t ingest anything, but you should consider a recall on this product. I will be warning my readers away from all Sassy products and avoiding them myself unless and until you can assure me of their safety.

Yours,
Rebecca

Update:

I received this email from the Sassy company.

Dear Rebecca: Thank you for your email. We were sorry to hear of the experience you encountered with the Swim on a Rim Rattle. Be assured the safety of the children using/playing with our products is our primary concern, and all of our products meet and exceed all safety standards set by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and the American Society for Testing & Materials (ASTM). FYI…this is an isolated incident. We will send you a postage-paid envelope to send the rattle back for a Quality Control inspection, and we’ll be happy to send your daughter a couple of different teethers, which we hope she will enjoy. The envelope and the teethers will go out in the mail this week. Each consumer is valued, and we thank you for taking the time to contact us. Best Regards,

Judy
