Stuff I’m Digging: Netflix

Hey, psst. This one’s a giveaway, too. (Contest closed.)

Marriage is hard. Just when you think you have a handle on things another issue crops up that threatens the very core of your relationship. It’s my own personal policy that when the going gets tough, you take it to Twitter.

This generated A LOT of discussion. The general consensus was pretty much, “Sux, but yeah. You gotta wait.” There was some talk about watching it and then pretending you didn’t. (But then you have to sit through it again without giving away any spoilers.) One person had been given permission to watch the next episode without her husband but then he was annoyed when she went ahead with it. Bottom line:  You start a show together, you finish it together.

So Netflix is tearing my marriage apart and then bringing it back together again. (All that TV watching. We’ve never spent this much time together.) What else is it doing for my family?

Right now, at this very moment, my children are enjoying a snow day off school by watching Sesame Street Classics on Netflix. I still love those old shows. It’s also our go-to source for family movie nights; Elf was a big hit over the Christmas season. It has a great selection of children’s movies and shows and I like that I can let one kid watch a hockey game and give another one the tablet to stream a show if I need a few minutes of quiet.

Personally, though, I love the great selection of high quality series on Netflix. (I love it and I hate it because when will I ever find the time?!) My favourite way to watch TV now is to start at the beginning of a series and slowly work my way through. I lost track of Mad Men after the first season so now I’m catching up on my own right before bed. I’m also enjoying Community if I want something shorter and lighter. And, of course, there’s the marital House of Cards requirement. And that is more than enough for me.

But I hear there are even movies on Netflix! Of course, movies are their main raison d’être and we’ve seen a couple in the past few weeks. In Canada we have fewer choices than you lucky Americans but there is still a lot to choose from. Way more than I could possibly watch. And, really, for eight bucks a month, who could complain?

CONTEST CLOSED

But don’t take my word for it! Win a six-month subscription and try it out for yourself. (You can still use it if you already subscribe, too.)

Browse the Netflix selection and then leave a comment telling me which show or movie you are most looking forward to watching. (Or tell me what you are already enjoying.)

Contest closes Friday, February 22nd at midnight. One entry per person. CANADA and US.

Netflix has been so great in our household! Right now, I’ve been LOVING Glee. I never got into it before but now I’m hooked. My toddler’s fave is Barney! We would love to win this- Netflix addicts in our house!

we love Netflix. unfortunately had a snag with our account using the xbox 360 to watch…and ended having to take a break until we could figure out the issue :(

our favourite to watch was Xena the warrior princess and Breaking Bad. mostly we watched tonnes of childrens shows because we dont have cable. for movies a personal fave was Business of being born, pregnant in america and another documentary titled The Amish.

I like working through all the 80s shows I enjoyed back in the day — star trek TNG, A-Team, knight rider, etc. Perfect trash tv for late nights when baby is up. All the AMC series are great to watch, too.

Pretty Little Liers I haven’t seen it but have wanted to for awhile. There are some movies that would be great to see too.

We loved “Better off Ted”. Excellent series! So funny and I love Portia di Rossi. Best part is, it’s only 2 seasons long. I’m looking forward to watching “We Bought a Zoo” next. :) Can you tell I love Netflix? lol…

Looking forward to Desperate Housewives…I started watching towards the end but want to see earlier episodes

I watched the entire “Buffy The Vampire Slayer” series from Netflix. Would like to see “House on the End of the Street.”

We love Breaking Bad, Dexter, and The Walking Dead! I’d also like to start watching Downtown Abbey.

How I met your mother. I’m a couple seasons behind and it would be great to get caught up.

I like watching the BBC shows on Netflix! Doctor Who, Sherlock, and Primeval are some of my favorites!

I’m working my way through Psych.

As far as streaming is concerned – The tv selection is great but the current hit movies selection kinda sucks.

I want to watch all of the fast and the furious ones and all of the twilight ones. Thank you for the giveaway

I’d love to start watching Downton Abbey! All my coworkers talk about it and I feel out of the loop!

Must watch The Office (American version) from beginning to now… that show never fails to get me laughing my ass off, especially when I need it most (i.e. crazy day of child care and mom guilt!)

We are currently watching the Buffy the Vampire Slayer series. It’s taking a while as there were 7 seasons!

Sean and I watched Breaking Bad last summer thanks to Netflix. I want to find us something we can watch together again. Maybe House of Cards or Sons of Anarchy.

I want to see Boardwalk Empire so I hope Netflix will have it available soon. I also want to watch the series Murdoch Mysteries.

Hello beautiful, how are you today? Thank you for this opportunity. I would like to see ‘Game of Thrones.’

“Game of Thrones” … I read the first book years ago and would love to see the film adaptation!
