Hey, pssst! Giveaway alert!
CONTEST CLOSED
Last week my three kids and I descended upon a lovely lunch with Gill Deacon, sponsored by Seventh Generation, like a pack of wild dogs. We stumbled in out of a torrential downpour, soaking wet and dripping everywhere. I somehow managed to get the kids’ shoes off before they discovered the wonder that is somebody else’s playroom. You have got to love a PR event that includes child care.
Gill Deacon is a Canadian broadcaster and environmental advocate who wrote There’s Lead in Your Lipstick and Green For Life. She teamed up with Seventh Generation to talk to us about toxins commonly found in household products and to teach us how to look past the “green washing” that is often used as a marketing ploy.
My main takeaway from the lunch was to distrust any company that doesn’t disclose all their ingredients. There’s an accumulation of chemicals in our bodies thanks to life-long exposures to toxins, in our beauty products and basic household cleaners and elsewhere. For the most part, we just don’t know what’s in them. Companies like Seventh Generation, however, are leading the way by voluntarily disclosing all of their ingredients. (Check out their Material Safety Data Sheet!)
And, since I’m no chemist, it’s also nice to know there are some brands you can simply trust. So I was super happy to get this bag of eco-friendly Seventh Gen products — well, you know, about as happy as you can be about cleaning products that you have to clean with — but even the bag itself was awesome.
Check out how cute the print is with the Lorax in the corner and everything. It’s a ChicoBag and I love them. This is a custom print for Seventh Gen, but they come in all kinds of prints and colours and styles that are quite stylish — for a shopping bag! They also have a little built-in pouch the bag fits into when not in use so it takes up next to no space in your purse. Or you can clip it onto your stroller like I do. I also happen to have a plain one I use as a wet bag for dirty cloth diapers on the go since it’s also completely washable. But enough! (I swear nobody’s paying me to say anything about these bags. Won’t somebody pay me already?! I do love them so.)
You could win a Seventh Generation Spring Starter kit yourself! Right here on this blog! The kit includes dish soap, laundry detergent and an all-purpose cleaner. To enter:
- “Like” the Seventh Generation Facebook page and leave me a comment here on this post.
- Canada only
- Contest closes at midnight on Thursday, May 31.
- One entry per person
- I’ll use random.org for the draw
- If I cannot contact the winner or do not receive a reply within a week, another winner will be drawn.
WE HAVE A WINNER!!
Stuff I’m Digging is a regular post in which I feature some thing or things that I like. These are often things that have been sent to me to review or that I received at a PR event. They can also be things that I bought myself or perhaps even something I crafted! (It could happen!) These are never sponsored posts and I will always disclose in the body of the post whether or not I paid for something.

Done! I love seventh generation!!
Okee doke — I liked their page. We’ve been using their laundry detergent for some time now… I have to be careful with that stuff because of Sam’s excema. It’s one of the few that I found that he can use without issue. Thank God for that! :)
Love Seventh Generation!!! Can’t wait to see what the 8th Generation will be like ;)
